Odoo's LinkedIn integration suggested matching LinkedIn profiles while you typed a customer name and filled the contact from the chosen profile. Setting it up took four steps.

Note: this article was written for Odoo 8.0; LinkedIn has since restricted this API and the stock integration was removed in later versions. Menu names have changed in later versions, but the concept and the configuration logic still apply. Ask if you want the current-version equivalent.

1. Install and enable

Install the LinkedIn Integration module, then in Configuration → Sales tick Get contacts automatically from LinkedIn under Social Network Integration.

2. Create a LinkedIn application

  1. Log in at the LinkedIn developer portal and add a new application.
  2. Website URL: the address of your Odoo instance (for a local test, http://localhost:8069).
  3. Programming tool: JavaScript; add the same URL under JavaScript API domains.

3. Paste the API key

Copy the generated API key into the field next to the option in Odoo and click Apply.

4. Use it

Open the Customers list, start typing a company or person name, and the LinkedIn match pops up; selecting it creates the contact with the public profile data.
