A small module that restarts numbering (invoices, orders, tickets) on a schedule, without manual edits.

Many companies number documents per period: INV/2016/0001 starts again at 0001 in January. Odoo's date-based prefixes handle the year in the name, but the counter itself does not reset. Our Auto Reset Sequences module adds that.

Note: this article was written for Odoo 8 and 9 (module on the Odoo Apps Store). Menu names have changed in later versions, but the concept and the configuration logic still apply. Ask if you want the current-version equivalent.

Setup

  1. Open the sequence to reset under Settings → Technical → Sequences.
  2. Tick Reset monthly or Reset yearly.
  3. Check the scheduled action created by the module (Settings → Technical → Scheduled Actions) and set the time it should run; it resets the counter at the start of each period.

The module touches only the counter; prefixes, padding and the existing numbers are untouched, so historical documents keep their references.
